Don’t Be Afraid of Change

Categories: Change
I felt sad this weekend! On Friday, we had a going-away party for my friend who is moving to New York. Then on Saturday, I met up with a good friend and his family who are moving to Arizona this week.
I don’t like change. I’m not exactly sure why. I think it’s mostly the fear of the unknown.
I do know that I try to avoid change when possible. Even if I think a change would be good for me, a lot of times I hesitate making the leap. I tend to prefer the status quo. Again, I think a lot of my change avoidance has to do with fear. Things may not be perfect where I’m at, but at least I’m familiar with it. Out there… who knows!
But I don’t think this way of being is very adaptive, so I’m trying to change 🙂
Part of the problem is that being change averse doesn’t really work with the way things are. The world we live in is always changing. People are always changing. We can resist the change, but then we’re kind of out of step with reality.
Also, being change averse causes me to miss out on life and new opportunities. If I don’t take a chance to try something new, I might miss out on a new possibility that would help me grow. I don’t want to miss out on life because of my fear.
So guys, have fun in your new adventures! I can’t wait to visit. And thanks for helping teach me to be open to change in my own life.
Discussion: How do you react when things change? How open are you to change in your life?

I take a deep breath…and jump! 🙂
Change is easier when you know that other things will stay the same – namely, good friends. Thanks Josh!
